Dr. Murray treats all intracranial conditions, such as brain tumors (meningiomas, vestibular schwannomas, and pituitary adenomas), trigeminal neuralgia and other cranial nerve compression syndromes, as well as skull base conditions using state-of-the-art technology, such as endoscopic and traditional surgical approaches, advanced instrumentation, stereotactic radiosurgery, and novel reconstruction options. This approach enables faster operations, shortened recovery, and improved outcomes.

An expert in minimally invasive and microneurosurgery, Dr. Murray treats spine conditions such as degenerative disorders, lumbar and cervical disc herniations, spinal stenosis, and spine tumors with the latest technological advancements such as spinal navigation, MIS techniques, and motion-preserving technologies and procedures.

Comprehensive Global Training and Experience

Dr. Murray’s extensive experience and diverse skillset are the products of lifelong learning and innovation. He completed neurosurgery training at the University of Vermont Medical Center, where he served as Chief Resident. During his training, he also completed advanced spine, pediatric, and cranial neurosurgery training at Maine Medical Center in Portland, ME, and complex cranial surgery training at the Montreal Neurological Institute in Montreal, Canada. Following his residency, he pursued post-graduate fellowship training in skull base and micro-neurosurgery at LSUHSC with Prof. Anil Nanda. In addition, he completed further subspecialty training in minimally invasive endoscopic skull base surgery at Weil Cornell Medical College under the direction of Prof. Theodore Schwartz. Prior to his career in neurosurgery in the United States, Dr. Murray graduated from Medical School at Stellenbosch University in South Africa, following which he practiced in the fields of critical care, neurocritical care, and neurosurgery in South Africa and the United Kingdom.

Dr. Murray is renowned for his breadth of experience across multiple specialties and embraces a multidisciplinary approach to the management of both routine and complex brain and spine conditions. He is frequently asked to collaborate on complex cases with other surgeons across multiple specialties, from both academia and private practice, when his unique expertise is required, including neurotology, skull base rhinology, orthopedic spine surgery, oculoplastic and neuro-ophthalmology, and radiation oncology.

Dr. Murray serves as Chairman of the Department of Neurosurgery (2020-current) at VHC Health in Arlington, VA. Throughout his career, he has authored and co-authored numerous peer-reviewed articles, book chapters, and surgical technique videos. He is an active member of the American Academy of Neurological Surgeons, Congress of Neurological Surgeons, and North American Skull Base Society. Additionally, he serves as clinical instructor of Neurology at the George Washinton University School of Medicine. He is consistently ranked as a leading physician in his field by the Washingtonian, Northern Virginia magazine, Arlington magazine, and Castle Connolly.
