Virginia Neurosurgeons, PC was founded in 2001
to provide unsurpassed neurosurgical expertise and service to patients
of Northern Virginia and the Washington, DC Metropolitan area. The
group is the only fully integrated subspecialized neurosurgical
practice in the region.
Currently, Virginia Neurosurgeons has four attending neurosurgeons:
Dr. Charles Riedel, Dr. Abraham Kader, Dr. Donald Wright and Dr. Sid Chandela. Each
member of the group trained at elite academic neurosurgery programs,
developed extensive subspecialty clinical and research experience
and made significant professional and academic contributions prior
to joining the group.
Together, VANS, PC surgeons have over 40 years of academic neurosurgical
experience at the attending level and 14 years of experience in
private practice.
The quality, sophistication and capabilities offered by the group
are unprecedented in the Northern Virginia area. This is reflected
not only in the rapid growth of the practice but also its recognition
well beyond the metropolitan area. Since its inception 10 years
ago, VANS, PC has seen nearly 5000 patients and carried out over
1250 operations. Our overall growth has averaged better than 40%
per year. In brain surgery (craniotomies) growth is even more rapid,
exceeding 650% since our first year. We have cared for patients
from twenty-nine states, the District of Columbia, the Virgin Islands
and Europe. Dr. Donald Wright is a nationally and internationally
recognized expert on skull base tumors, acoustic neuromas and pituitary
tumors.
Dr. Kader is a cerebrovascular and stereotactic neurosurgeon with
important contributions in the understanding of cerebral Arteriovenous
malformations and subarachnoid hemorrhage. Dr. Chandela is an endovascular neurosurgeon who serves as Director of Neurovascular Surgery at Virginia Hospital Center. His practice involves the full scope of general neurosurgery, including procedures for brain tumors and minimally invasive spine surgery. Dr. Riedel has broad
expertise in spinal surgery, was a pioneer in the development of
endoscopic and minimally invasive spinal surgery and is an expert
on the surgical treatment of hyperhidrosis. Dr. Wright and Dr. Riedel
offer full surgical services for the diagnosis and treatment of
trigeminal neuralgia. Together they have over ninety publications
and have given over four hundred lectures and courses at national
and international meetings.
